Let’s Talk About It: Eating Disorders, Stigma, and Empowered Recovery

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health (OWH) hosted a webinar on Thursday, February 29, during the annual observance of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. (NEDAW)

The Office on Women’s Health was honored to have Assistant Secretary for Health, Admiral Rachel L. Levine, provide opening remarks at the event and welcome participants to this important discussion.

The webinar featured the latest eating disorder data, disparities for underserved and underrepresented populations, and best practices in providing quality care for diverse communities. Attendees heard from subject matter experts in the field and individuals with lived experience as they dived into the latest eating disorder considerations for individuals, loved ones, and healthcare professionals. The presenters included:

  • Christine M. Peat, PhD, FAED, LP – Associate Professor and Director, National Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders at UNC Chapel Hill
  • Johanna Kandel – Founder and CEO, National Alliance on Eating Disorders
  • Amy Egbert, PhD – Assistant Professor, University of Connecticut
  • Schuyler Bailar (he/him) - Educator, Author, and Advocate
  • Sarah Fischer, PhD – Associate Professor, George Mason University
  • Denise Wilfley, PhD – Professor and Director, Center for Healthy Weight and Wellness at Washington University
