I too want to quit. I have been smoking I think about 20 years and I am now 43 and I want to quit. I never really tried but I know it’s hard. I am getting up in the morning without that craving. In fact, yesterday I went all day with only one little short one at the end of the day.

I started smoking when I was 20 then quit cold turkey after 2 1/2 years of smoking. I quit for a year but started again. It’s been about 3 or 4 months since I started again. I hate feeling so unhealthy, stinking and no one else smokes in my home. I started spitting up blood so that’s why I first quit and it started again my second time smoking and I really want to end this! I can be quite depressed, anxious and stressed at times but I don’t want to kill myself by continuing this bad habit. I still have half a pack of smokes left but I want to throw it in the garbage and never look back. Hope I find the strength to do so.

I have read every book i can find on quitting smoking and finally found one that worked for me. It is a book called "Stop Smoking the easy way" by Alan Carr. I quit for 6 months and was happy and upbeat the whole time. I made one mistake and forgot one chapter that said you can never smoke another cigarette. Yep 6 months smoke free and 1 was all it took to be a smoker again. I will read my book again and start over. I will read the chapter every week re: not one cigarette. Good luck to all of us.

I quit smoking on August 9th 2009, it has been about 60 days. I'm doing it! I started taking a medication that my doctor prescribed me - that really helped get over the first month. I decided to ease off it after a month. I have good day and some days I want one but I can handle the 3 minutes. I do take the medication when going into a social situation that I can't handle - lots of smokers. I didn't have any side affects except some strange dreams. I had smoked for over 20 years and at the end I was a pack a day. I also took a class for 8 weeks offered through my health insurance for $20.00. I think the class helped me prepare for the quit date and beyond. I had tried to quit 2 other times without success. Good Luck to all who want to quit, you can do it. I feel so much better.

My mom had a stroke and should not smoke anymore. The problem is that she wants a cigarette so bad I am afraid that she is going to have a nervous breakdown. Any suggestions?

Hey guys I just turned 24 yesterday and I have been smoke-free for 8 days. I smoked since grade 9 so - something like 12 years of smoking a pack a day almost. Anyway, I used a cold laser treatment and to be honest I’m not sure if it was the laser or me not wanting to waste money I spent for the laser treatment, but I think it worked. I would say the cravings were not as bad as all the other times I tried to quit so it must have worked at least a little bit. For me it seems to be getting a little easier every day as I'm starting to forget about them. My dad has quit for something like 30 years now and I asked him if he would have a smoke on his death bed and he said it would not interest him so I'm guessing at some point we realize how disgusting these things are. Anyways I think it is good for people who are quitting to come on these sites and spend a half hour writing a post because anything you can do to change your thinking of wanting a smoke helps. I also wanted to say that I tried using the nicotine patches but in all honesty I didn't like the idea that I wasn't freeing myself of the nicotine habit. I mean, if I'm going through the pain of not being able to smoke than at least I would like to know I'm getting the nicotine out of my body. Good luck everyone I hope this inspires some people to quit smoking and live longer.

Hello, this is my first day without smoking. I have been smoking since I was 11 years old and I am now 45 years old. I am taking a medication prescribed by my doctor. I have no withdrawal symptoms but I can't stop thinking about a cigarette. I keep thinking about day two and realize this is going to be no picnic. I just wish I knew what to do with my mind. After smoking for 23 years, I am now SMOKE-FREE! I quit using a medication prescribed by my doctor 19 months ago and I will NEVER go back.

I really enjoy this website and the comments that people have written. The comments have really helped me to know that I am not alone and it encourages me. It is day 10 that I have not smoked and it is getting easier and easier. I still think about it from time to time, but I know eventually I will not think about it. My husband has encouraged me a lot. He also told me that he prays for me. Prayer is very powerful, and Jesus has really helped me through this. What a wonderful present to give to ourselves to stop smoking and add precious time to our lives. To our health, to our lives, and to a longer future.
