Dr. Mehegan began her career with the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) as a National Health Service Corps scholarship-obligated dentist, providing clinical oral health services to underserved populations in California and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. She received hospital-based general practice residency training at the VA Medical Center in San Francisco and holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Dr. Mehegan has held administrative assignments with commissioned corps personnel and FDA human resources and served for 8 years as the Regional Women’s Health Coordinator in HHS Region X Seattle, working with state contacts and women's health advocates for Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.  Her areas of interest include working with volunteer interns committed to public service, engaging young minds in science and supporting efforts to address diversity in the health professions.
