Spotlight on Women's Health

Interview with a nurse practitioner

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a nurse practitioner and a "regular" nurse or even a doctor? Our interview with Obsitu Kelifa might help unveil the mystery and shed some light on why nurse practitioners are such an asset to our health care system.

Benefits of Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is important for both babies and mothers. Filled with disease-fighting antibodies, breast milk lowers babies' risk for health problems, including ear infections, stomach viruses, respiratory infections, asthma, obesity, and more. For mothers, breastfeeding is linked to a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and postpartum depression. Read our updated fact sheet for answers to common breastfeeding questions about nutrition, birth control, medicines, and more.

What Women Want to Know

Highlights from the womenshealth.gov information and referral center

We received a call from a woman who had varicose veins and wanted to know if she should be concerned. We emailed her our updated fact sheet on varicose veins and gave additional information from a few other federal agencies. We also suggested she speak with her doctor about her concerns.
