Health Tip: Parenting a Child With a Heart Defect

(HealthDay News) -- Children born with a heart defect can live long and healthy lives.

The U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute offers these recommendations for parents of children born with a heart defect:

  • Talk to your doctor about a feeding schedule and calorie-appropriate meal plan for your child.
  • Encourage your child to get plenty of physical activity, and speak with the doctor about any exercises your child should avoid.
  • Address any emotional issues that bother your child.
