Minority and Women's Health

| Minority women, especially African-American women, are at higher risk for lupus. CouldIHaveLupus.gov is a special Web site where you can learn more about this autoimmune disorder, read the stories of real women with lupus, and share your thoughts. |

All women desire and deserve good health for themselves and their families. Yet many minority women face challenges to having good health. Even though minority women have many of the same health problems as white women, minority women as a group are in poorer health. Minority women use fewer health services and suffer more from disease, disabilities, and early death. Many also face huge social, economic, and cultural barriers to having life-long good health.
Yet, because minority groups are diverse, even within each group, access to health care, health behaviors, and health status can vary widely. With this in mind, this section of womenshealth.gov takes a closer look at some of the main health problems facing specific minority groups, and provides links to more in-depth information. It gives practical steps that a woman can take to lower her risk of disease and illness and to boost her overall health.
Womenshealth.gov encourages you to browse through the sections that speak to you and your health needs and invites you to come back to the site often!
