Mission Statement

Sexual Assault Resource Service (SARS) was initially funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office for Victims of Crime. Current funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Telecommunications and Information Administration. SARS has made a firm commitment to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) program evaluation research as the only means of ensuring that SANE-SART program development is evidence-based. As a result, SARS has conducted extensive research on sexual assault impact and treatment efficacy, evidence collection, as well as program process and outcome research. Through leading technical assistance workshops, conducting SANE-SART trainings, SARS has helped communities across the country develop SANE-SART programs.
